Hi Barry, I'm not sure where to post this, so sorry for the odd placement of this question.

I am using the ebook version of your text. In the final chapter of the Primary chapter (proportions), I think there is a typo. it tells the reader abotu how to find a vairable in a fraction by cross multiplication. It shows \frac{32}{20}=\frac{x}{10} as equivalent to {20x}={32}*{20} = {20x}={320}, which is not correct.

I love the book and will rely heavily on it as I embark on a new journey of teaching secondary maths from 2024.

Thank you; we have caught that error, and I have a list of corrections that we've given to the publisher. The second edition will correct that. It should have said 32 * 10, not 32 * 20 as you pointed out.

I'm glad you like the book! Please spread the word. Where do you teach?

Great to know and thanks for the quick response. I teach in rural South Australia. It's a lovely part of the world. I have been spreading the workd and will continue to, but am doing so in the teeth of resistance from the cult of inquiry learning that has gripped our school. I have made some progress though!

Do you have any recommendations for text books or resources for teaching Grade 8 and 9 (your book covers Grade 8 Algebra, of course). I have just accepted an offer to teach Middle Years Maths, after 12 year of Primary education. I am putting together a portfolio, including the great stuff out of the English NCETM, but any pointers would be of immense value. It's hard to find anything in Australia that isn't inquiry based.

I don't know of grade 9 math books offhand but can search around; would this be for geometry? You might contact Greg Ashman who lives in Ballarat Australia and is involved with math and science education. He has a blog called "Filling the Pail". You may have heard of him.

In the meantime, if you provide an email, I can send you an errata sheet for "Traditional Math" so you can correct the errors in the book.

I think I came across your work through reading Greg Ashman, him or Marty Ross. They, along with your work, have been very influential on me and I am a better teacher for having discovered you all. I will do as you suggest and reach out to them both. I am after anything at all that will help me ensure the children get the maths they are entitled to.

My email is theblinddog@mac.com

Thanks again,

Aaron
